How to speed up you computer

April 15th, 2008

if you are like me, you have probably realized that after installing windows xp and using your system for a while ( a few months maybe) , it starts to run slow!

below are ways i am trying in order to improve my computer performance.

1 - use disk clean up : right click on your hard drive and choose property
2 - defragment your system frequently! it speeds up access to data
3 - remove unused programs

4 - Detect and repair disk erros : right click on your hard drive and choose property then choose Tools, Error-checking

5 - check for virus, spywares & adwares, malwares

6 - Adjust visual effect for best performance :

. right click on  my computer then properties ( or go to control panel then choos the System icon)

. choose the Advanced tab

. choose settings under Performance

. select Adjust for best performance

6.1 Adjust Memory Usage :

go where u went in 6.

then choose the advanced tab

for Processor Scheduling choose: Programs

for Memory usage choose : Programs if you do not have enough RAM, choose System Cache if you  have lots of RAM (>=1G )

6.2 Adjust Virtual Memory :

for your information,  Virtual Memory is an area of the hard disk that the computer uses as if it were RAM.

you want your virtual memory to be 1.5 times bigger than your RAM

if you have additional hard drives and they are just as fast or faster than your hard drive ( check the RPM, they will most likely have the same speed).  you can place the page file (virtual memory ) in a separate disk different from the operating system. you can span the page file across several disks to improve performance.
7 - Stop programs from starting on windows boot

Firewire, wwhat’s that?

March 2nd, 2007

I took my friend to buy a laptop. well it had a lot of features most i know, some i don`t.

One of them was that firewire thing. You always hear about it but never bother to find out what it was.

First invented by Apple but now running on mos PCs, Firewire is a technology that enable digital devices such as camcorders and cameras to communicate with the computer.

a similar competitive technology is usb (universal serial bus) which is currently more popular

so the next you go buy a computer don`t be too impress when you hear firewire and buy the computer just because it sounds cool. Consider first if some of your peripherals need it.

firewire is fast than usb, but you really only need for high performance devices such as digital digital audio and video devices.

NBA Stats: The best starting 5 right now!

February 21st, 2007

If i had to make a dream team, I would consider these guys below among my first choices. why not?

Marcus Camby

Kevin Garnet

David Lee

Ron Artest

Steve Nash

Carmelo Anthony

well carmelo lead the league is points/game, Garnett in rebound/game, Nash in Assists/game, Marcus Camby in blocks/game, David Lee in field goal percentage and ron artest in steal/game. That makes for a pretty good team, doesn`t it ( aside from David Lee). Of course stats are not every thing. But if i didn`t know much about basketball and i had to make a decision then those guys would make an outstanding starting five.

an Astoroid will strike our planet in 2036

February 20th, 2007

Astronomers are tracking an asteroid named Apophis. It is estimated that it has a 1 in 45,000 chances of striking our planet in 2036.

are we doomed to experience what the dinosaurs did? not likely, such an asteroid could take out an entire city or region at most.

which region? it is rather difficult to predict the point of impact.

in any case, A mission to prevent such a collison may be the responsibility of the U.N.
