if you are like me, you have probably realized that after installing windows xp and using your system for a while ( a few months maybe) , it starts to run slow!
below are ways i am trying in order to improve my computer performance.
1 - use disk clean up : right click on your hard drive and choose property
2 - defragment your system frequently! it speeds up access to data
3 - remove unused programs
4 - Detect and repair disk erros : right click on your hard drive and choose property then choose Tools, Error-checking
5 - check for virus, spywares & adwares, malwares
6 - Adjust visual effect for best performance :
. right click on my computer then properties ( or go to control panel then choos the System icon)
. choose the Advanced tab
. choose settings under Performance
. select Adjust for best performance
6.1 Adjust Memory Usage :
go where u went in 6.
then choose the advanced tab
for Processor Scheduling choose: Programs
for Memory usage choose : Programs if you do not have enough RAM, choose System Cache if you have lots of RAM (>=1G )
6.2 Adjust Virtual Memory :
for your information, Virtual Memory is an area of the hard disk that the computer uses as if it were RAM.
you want your virtual memory to be 1.5 times bigger than your RAM
if you have additional hard drives and they are just as fast or faster than your hard drive ( check the RPM, they will most likely have the same speed). you can place the page file (virtual memory ) in a separate disk different from the operating system. you can span the page file across several disks to improve performance.
7 - Stop programs from starting on windows boot
